W11D2 - Play (The Stray)

by Kati Evans

Here is the full production script for Week 11, Day 2.

To ensure this fills the 30–60 minute window, the play is written as a Time-Lapse Drama. It requires the actors to act out the physical toll of waiting (hunger, thirst, dust) to make the abandonment feel real and tragic.

⚠️ IMPORTANT: You must copy "PART 2: THE PLAY" into a Notecard named Script: The Stray and give it to Aria (or your actors) at least 24 hours in advance.

📜 SECOND LIFE SCRIPT: WEEK 11, DAY 2

🎤 PART 1: THE PROLOGUE (Kati)

(Walk to the podium. Wait for the crowd to settle.)

[Chat Block 1] /me steps onto the stage, moving to the side to leave the "Street" area clear. "Tal, Citizens. Yesterday, we spoke of Ownership and the papers that prove it. We learned that a slave must be registered to exist legally."

[Chat Block 2] "But what happens when the Owner stops owning? What happens when a Master walks out the gate and never comes back? Or simply... forgets?"

[Chat Block 3] "We have a rule in Teletus called the Three Hand Rule. Fifteen Days. That is the limit of abandonment."

[Chat Block 4] "Today, the Caste of Players presents 'The Stray.' It is the story of a girl named Dina. She was obedient. She was loyal. She did exactly what her Master told her to do. And that was her downfall."

[Chat Block 5] "Watch closely. See how the City deals with property that has been left out in the rain. Actors, take the stage!"

/me steps off the stage and joins the audience to watch.

🎭 PART 2: THE PLAY (For the Actors)

(NOTE: Give this section to your Actors.)

[SCENE 1: THE COMMAND]

(The Slave, Dina, stands with an imaginary Master (or have the Guard play the Master briefly then switch). She holds a basket.)

Voice of Master (Emoted): 'Wait here, Dina. I have business in the tower. Do not move until I return.'

Dina: /me kneels by the fountain, head down. "Yes, Master. I will be as stone. I await your pleasure."

(The Master leaves. Dina waits. She smiles at passersby.)

Dina: /me hums a soft tune, adjusting her silk. "He will be back soon. He never takes long."

[SCENE 2: THE PASSAGE OF TIME]

(This scene requires acting out the passage of days quickly.)

Dina: /me shivers, rubbing her arms. The sun has set. "It is cold. He must have been delayed. He will come in the morning." /me curls up on the ground to sleep.

(Pause for 5 seconds. Dina stands up, looking tired.)

Dina: /me licks dry lips. She looks at the fountain water. "Three days. I am thirsty. But he said 'Do not move.' If I leave to find food, he will whip me. I must wait."

(Pause for 5 seconds. Dina is now sitting, looking weak/dusty.)

Dina: /me holds her stomach. "Ten days. Please, Master. Where are you? Did you forget me?" /me reaches out to a passerby (The Guard walking past). "Master Guard? Have you seen him? Lord Varrick?"

The Guard: /me stops, looking at her. "Varrick? He left for the Northern Forests a hand ago, girl. He took a caravan."

Dina: "No... he said wait. He is coming back. I know it."

The Guard: /me shrugs and keeps walking. "Suit yourself. But you look like trash, girl."

[SCENE 3: THE SEIZURE]

(Dina is slumped against the fountain. The Kennel Master enters, flipping through a ledger. The Guard is with him.)

Kennel Master: /me stops in front of Dina. He taps her with his foot. "Girl. Wake up."

Dina: /me startles awake, weak. "Master? Are you back?"

Kennel Master: "I am not your Master. I am the Keeper of the City Kennels. Who owns you?"

Dina: "Lord Varrick! He... he told me to wait!"

Kennel Master: /me checks the book. "Varrick... Varrick... Ah. Yes. He deregistered his residency Three Hands ago. He is gone, girl. He abandoned his apartment, and he abandoned you."

Dina: "No! He wouldn't! He loves me!"

Kennel Master: "He loves not feeding you. Law 6.5.1: 'The Kennels shall claim any slave whose Owner abandons the slave for 3 hands.'"

Dina: "But I am his!"

Kennel Master: "Not anymore. You are a public nuisance. You are starving and dirty." /me nods to the Guard. "Cut her collar."

The Guard: /me steps forward with bolt cutters (or a knife). SNAP. /me pulls the collar from her neck and throws it on the ground.

Kennel Master: /me produces a generic City Collar. "You are now property of the City of Teletus. You will be fed. You will be washed. And then you will be sold to a man who can remember he owns you."

Dina: /me weeps, reaching for her old collar on the ground. "Master... Master..."

The Guard: /me hauls her up by the arm. "Come on, stray. To the cages."

(They drag her away. Actors Bow.)

🎤 PART 3: THE ANALYSIS (Kati Returns)

(Wait for the actors to clear the stage. Walk back to the podium.)

[Chat Block 6] /me steps back up to the podium. "Poor Dina. Her loyalty was her undoing."

[Chat Block 7] "The Law of Abandonment seems cruel, but it is actually Merciful. If the City did not claim her, she would have starved to death by that fountain."

[Chat Block 8] "Law 6.5 ensures that every slave has a Master responsible for her feed. If the private Master fails, the City steps in. We do not allow property to rot in the streets. It is bad for hygiene, and bad for the economy."

🐕 PART 4: THE LOITERING GAME (Interactive)

[Chat Block 9] /me leans forward. "I want to teach you how to spot a Stray. I will give you a scenario. You tell me: Working (Safe) or Stray (Seize her)?"

[Scenario 1] "Scenario 1: A slave stands by a shop door holding a heavy package. She stands there for two hours. She looks bored, but healthy. Working or Stray?" (WAIT. Answer: WORKING.)

[Chat Block 10] "Verdict: WORKING. She has a purpose. She is holding goods. Her Master is likely inside haggling. Leave her be."

[Scenario 2] "Scenario 2: A slave is wandering the market. She stops at every stall, chatting with merchants, giggling, but buys nothing and carries nothing. She has been there all day. Working or Stray?" (WAIT. Answer: STRAY / LOITERING.)

[Chat Block 11] "Verdict: STRAY (or Loitering). Law 6.5.2 says: 'If the Kennels find a slave without an escort or purpose...' Flirting is not a purpose. The Kennel Master should detain her and check her papers. She is likely skipping her duties."

[Scenario 3] "Scenario 3: A slave is found sleeping in an alleyway at dawn. She says her Master locked her out. Working or Stray?" (WAIT. Answer: SEIZE HER.)

[Chat Block 12] "Verdict: SEIZE HER. Even if she has a Master, she is vulnerable. The Kennels will take her in for 'Safe Keeping' and charge the Master a heavy fee to get her back. It teaches the Master to lock his doors properly."

❓ PART 5: Q&A SEGMENT

[Chat Block 13] "I will take questions now regarding Abandonment, Kennels, or Stray Property."

(Signal PLANT A)

[PLANT A QUESTION] (Plant asks): "Mistress! If I find a stray slave, can I just keep her? Finders Keepers?"

[Chat Block 14 - Answer] /me shakes her head. "No. That is Theft. She has a brand. She has paperwork somewhere."

[Chat Block 15] "You must turn her in to the Kennels. However... if she goes to Auction and no one claims her... you can bid on her. But you cannot just drag her home and paint your name on her. That is stealing from her previous Master (or the City)."

(Signal PLANT B)

[PLANT B QUESTION] (Plant asks): "Mistress, what happens to the Master who abandoned her? Is he punished?"

[Chat Block 16 - Answer] /me nods grimly. "If he returns? Yes. He is charged with Negligence."

[Chat Block 17] "He loses the value of the slave (she is confiscated), and he may be fined for wasting City resources. The Kennels are not a free babysitting service. If we have to feed your girl, you pay."

🏁 THE CLOSING

[Chat Block 18] /me smooths her robes. "Masters, count your property tonight. Slaves, pray your Master remembers you."

[Chat Block 19] "Tomorrow, we switch to poetry. We will have a reading titled 'The Brand.'"

[Chat Block 20] "We will discuss the mark that cannot be removed. The collar comes off, but the iron stays forever. It is the ultimate symbol of ownership."

[Chat Block 21] "Thank you to our players. The Circle is closed!"

(Signal Crier/Slave to end.)
