W11D1 - Lecture (The Object)

by Kati Evans

Here is the full production script for Week 11, Day 1.

To ensure this fills the 30–60 minute window, this script includes a detailed breakdown of the "Bureaucracy of Slavery," focusing on papers, medicals, and registration. I have added an interactive segment called "The Paperwork Audit" to test the audience on their knowledge of legal documentation.

Crucial Note: Have a Slave Collar (prop) in your hand or rezzed on the podium to serve as a visual aid.

📜 SECOND LIFE SCRIPT: WEEK 11, DAY 1

Event: The Lecture (The Object: Ownership & Papers) Host: Kati Evans Target Duration: 35–45 Minutes (plus gathering time)

🟢 PRE-EVENT CHECKLIST

  • [ ] Rez the Stage. (Props: A Slave Collar, a stack of "Papers" or scrolls).

  • [ ] Staff: Ensure Plant A and Plant B have their Question Notecards.

  • [ ] 1:00 PM: Announce 5-minute gathering period.

🎤 PART 1: THE WELCOME (The Definition)

(Walk to the podium. Hold up the Slave Collar. Let it catch the light.)

[Chat Block 1] /me steps up to the podium, holding a polished steel collar in her hand. She looks at the slaves kneeling in the crowd, then at their Masters. "Tal, Citizens. Welcome to Week 11 of The Circle."

[Chat Block 2] "We have spent ten weeks discussing the rights of the Free. Today, we turn our eyes to the property that breathes."

[Chat Block 3] "To the uneducated eye, a slave looks like a person. She eats, she sleeps, she bleeds. But to the Law, she is furniture. She is a tharlarion. She is a chair."

[Chat Block 4] "Law 6.1 defines this status. Law 6.1.1: 'The Owner holds sole property rights... and may use, dispose of, or destroy the slave at will.'"

[Chat Block 5] "There is no such thing as 'Slave Rights.' There is only the whim of the Master. If he wants to sell you, he sells you. If he wants to kill you, he kills you. You exist for his pleasure."

📝 PART 2: THE PAPERWORK (Registration)

[Chat Block 6] /me sets the collar down and picks up a scroll. "But Masters... do not think you are above the Law. You cannot just hoard property in secret. Ownership requires Proof."

[Chat Block 7] "Law 6.4.3: 'All slaves must be registered.' If you buy a girl, you have 3 Hands (15 days) to register her with the City Scribes."

[Chat Block 8] "If you fail? If you are lazy? The Kennels may seize her. An unregistered slave is a stray. And strays belong to the City. Do not lose your investment because you hate paperwork."

[Chat Block 9] "Law 6.4.1 requires an Annual Medical Exam. You cannot sell a slave without a current health record. It protects the buyer from disease, and it protects the market from fraud. If her papers are expired, she is unsellable."

🔍 PART 3: THE PAPERWORK AUDIT (Interactive Game)

[Chat Block 10] /me leans forward. "I want to play a game called 'Valid or Void?' I will describe a set of slave papers. You tell me if they are legal."

[Scenario 1] "Scenario 1: A Master has a Bill of Sale for his slave. It is signed by him and the previous owner. But there is no Scribe's Seal on it. Valid or Void?" (WAIT for audience to answer. Correct answer: VOID.)

[Chat Block 11 - The Verdict] "Verdict: VOID. Law 6.4.5. 'A bill of sale is valid only when a Scribe of the Isle or a Kennel Scribe signs and seals it.' Two men trading in the dark is not a legal sale. If the previous owner steals her back, the Magistrate will not help you."

[Scenario 2] "Scenario 2: A Master registers his slave. He has the Scribe's Seal. But her Medical Exam is 14 months old. Valid or Void?" (WAIT. Answer: VOID.)

[Chat Block 12 - The Verdict] "Verdict: VOID. Law 6.4.2. 'Slave Papers cannot be filed without a current, up-to-date medical examination... not older than a year.' Get her to a Physician."

[Scenario 3] "Scenario 3: A Master loses his papers in a fire. He still has the slave. He goes to the Scribes and asks for a copy from the Hall of Records. Valid or Void?" (WAIT. Answer: VALID.)

[Chat Block 13 - The Verdict] "Verdict: VALID. That is why we have a Hall of Records. If you register correctly, the City proves your ownership even if your house burns down. The Scribes are your backup."

❓ PART 4: Q&A SEGMENT (Extending Time)

[Chat Block 14] /me takes a sip of water. "I will take questions now regarding Ownership, Papers, or the Kennels."

(Signal PLANT A)

[PLANT A QUESTION] (Plant asks): "Mistress! What about the slave's possessions? My slave found a gold coin in the street. Is it hers?"

[Chat Block 15 - Answer] /me laughs softly. "No. Law 6.1.2: 'A slave owns nothing and holds no property.'"

[Chat Block 16] "If she finds a coin, it is yours. If she knits a scarf, it is yours. If she claims to 'own' anything—even her name—she is stealing from you. Strip her of her pockets. Property does not need pockets."

(Signal PLANT B)

[PLANT B QUESTION] (Plant asks): "Mistress, I am visiting from Ar. Are my Ar papers valid here? Or do I have to re-register?"

[Chat Block 17 - Answer] /me nods. "Foreign papers are recognized as proof of ownership for Visitors. Law 6.4.2 accepts exams from other cities."

[Chat Block 18] "HOWEVER... if you become a Resident or Citizen of Teletus, you must re-register your property under our Seal. Do not live here for a year on Ar papers. Transfer the title."

🏁 THE CLOSING

[Chat Block 19] /me smooths her robes. "Slavery is the engine of Gor. But an engine needs oil. That oil is Paperwork. Keep your documents in order, and your property is safe."

[Chat Block 20] "Tomorrow, we move to the stage. Our players will perform a drama titled 'The Stray.'"

[Chat Block 21] "It is the story of a slave whose Master vanished. She waited by the fountain for weeks. Tomorrow, we will see what the Kennel Master did when he found her. It is a lesson in the 3-Hand Rule of Abandonment."

[Chat Block 22] "Dismissed!"

(Signal Crier/Slave to end.)
