by Kati Evans
Here is the full production script for Week 9, Day 4.
To ensure this fills the 30–60 minute window, the Storyteller portion is written as a visceral, action-heavy narrative. I have also included an interactive segment called "The Hierarchy of Violence" to teach the audience that who you hit matters more than how hard you hit.
Special Instruction: You must copy the "Part 2: The Story" section into a Notecard named Script: The Sacred Official and give it to your Guest Speaker (or perform it yourself) before the event.
📜 SECOND LIFE SCRIPT: WEEK 9, DAY 4
Event: The Storyteller ("The Sacred Official") Host: Kati Evans Guest Performer: The Storyteller (Guest or Kati) Target Duration: 40–50 Minutes
🟢 PRE-EVENT CHECKLIST
[ ] Rez the Stage. (Props: A Warrior's Helm or a Spear placed on the podium).
[ ] The Storyteller: Ensure they have the script notecard.
[ ] 1:00 PM: Start formal RP. Announce 5-minute gathering.
🎤 PART 1: THE INTRODUCTION (Kati)
(Walk to the podium. Pick up the Helm/Spear. Look at it with respect.)
[Chat Block 1] /me steps onto the stage. She rests her hand on the cold metal of the Warrior's helm sitting on the podium. "Tal, Citizens. Welcome to Day 4 of The Circle."
[Chat Block 2] "This week, we have seen the price of Theft. We have seen hands lost and ears notched. But today, we speak of Violence."
[Chat Block 3] "In a tavern brawl, two men fight. Noses are broken. Tables are smashed. The Magistrate calls it Assault (Law 4.4.3). You pay a fine. You sit in the stocks. You go home."
[Chat Block 4] "But... if you swing your fist and it connects with the jaw of a Guard, a Magistrate, or a Council Member... the world changes instantly."
[Chat Block 5] "Law 4.4.3.c changes a fistfight into a Capital Crime. Why? Because an Official is not a man. He is the Avatar of the State. To strike him is to strike the Ubar."
[Chat Block 6] "Today, our Storyteller brings us the tale of 'The Sacred Official.' It is the story of Torian, a man with a heavy hand and a hot temper, who made the mistake of hitting the wrong man."
/me steps down and takes a seat near the fire, gesturing for the Storyteller to take the chair.
📖 PART 2: THE STORY (For the Guest Speaker)
(Give this text to your Storyteller. They should paste one block at a time, allowing 15-20 seconds for the audience to read and visualize the action.)
[Block 1] /me sits in the storyteller's chair, cracking their knuckles. "Torian was a quarry worker. He broke rocks for a living. His arms were thick as tree trunks, and his brain was... somewhat smaller. He liked his Paga strong and his arguments loud."
[Block 2] "It was a humid night at the Copper Tankard. Torian was drinking with his crew. Across the room sat a rival group of dockworkers. Insults were thrown. Then a cup. Then a stool."
[Block 3] "The brawl began. It was a glorious mess. Fists flying, wood splintering. Torian was in his element. He knocked two men down. He was laughing. It was just a fight. Just boys being boys."
[Block 4] "Then, the door burst open. 'HALT!' cried a voice. It was a City Guard. A young Warrior, perhaps only twenty, but wearing the Red of the Caste and the Iron of the City."
[Block 5] "The Guard waded into the fight, trying to separate the men. He grabbed Torian by the shoulder to pull him back. 'Stand down, Citizen!' the Guard ordered."
[Block 6] "Torian was blind with rage and drink. He did not see the Red Uniform. He only felt a hand on his shoulder. He spun around, roaring, and threw a massive punch."
[Block 7] /me mimes a heavy punch. THUD. "His fist connected with the Guard's face. The young Warrior went down, his nose shattered, his helmet clattering across the floor."
[Block 8] "Silence swept the tavern like a cold wind. The other brawlers stopped mid-punch. They backed away from Torian as if he had the plague."
[Block 9] "Torian stood there, panting. He looked at the Guard on the floor. He looked at his friends. 'What?' he said. 'He grabbed me first! It was self-defense!'"
[Block 10] "The tavern keeper shook his head. 'You fool,' he whispered. 'You just killed yourself.'"
[Block 11] "More guards arrived. They did not treat Torian like a brawler. They treated him like an enemy combatant. They beat him to his knees. They dragged him to the Magistrate."
[Block 12] "Torian pleaded. 'It was a bar fight! I pay the fine!' The Magistrate looked at the young Guard's broken face."
[Block 13] "'You struck an Officer of the Law,' the Magistrate said. 'Law 4.4.3.c. You did not hit a man; you hit the Authority of Teletus.'"
[Block 14] /me lowers voice to a whisper. "Torian lost his right hand—the hand that struck the blow—at dawn. He can no longer break rocks. He sits by the temple now, begging with his left hand. A moment of anger cost him his livelihood."
(The Storyteller bows/nods.)
🎤 PART 3: THE ANALYSIS (Kati Returns)
(Walk back to the podium.)
[Chat Block 15] /me stands and nods to the Storyteller. "Torian's mistake was thinking all men are equal in a fight. They are not."
[Chat Block 16] "The Uniform is a shield. If you strike a Guard, you are declaring war on the City. That is why the punishment jumps from a Fine (for hitting a citizen) to Mutilation (for hitting an Official)."
[Chat Block 17] "This applies to Magistrates, Scribes on Duty, Tax Collectors, and The Ubar. If they are acting in their official capacity, they are untouchable."
⚔️ PART 4: THE HIERARCHY OF VIOLENCE (Interactive Game)
[Chat Block 18] /me leans on the podium. "I want to test your instincts. I will give you a target. You tell me the likely punishment if you punch them in the face. Fine (Minor) or Hand/Death (Major)?"
[Scenario 1] "Scenario 1: You get into an argument with a Peasant Baker over a loaf of bread. You punch him. Fine or Hand?" (WAIT. Answer: FINE.)
[Chat Block 19] "Verdict: FINE. It is Simple Assault. You pay him damages. You might spend a night in jail to cool off. But you keep your hand."
[Scenario 2] "Scenario 2: You get into an argument with a Tax Collector (Scribe) who is auditing your shop. You punch him. Fine or Hand?" (WAIT. Answer: HAND.)
[Chat Block 20] "Verdict: HAND. He is an Official Agent of the Ubarate performing his duty. Striking him is striking the Treasury. You lose the hand."
[Scenario 3] "Scenario 3: A Slave spills wine on you. You punch the slave. Fine or Hand?" (WAIT. Answer: NEITHER / PROPERTY DAMAGE.)
[Chat Block 21] "Verdict: PROPERTY DAMAGE. You cannot 'Assault' a slave, legally speaking. You damaged property. You owe the Master the cost of healing the slave. If you killed it, you owe the price of the slave. But the City does not demand your hand for striking furniture."
❓ PART 5: Q&A SEGMENT
[Chat Block 22] "I will take questions now regarding Assault, Officials, or Self-Defense."
(Signal PLANT A)
[PLANT A QUESTION] (Plant asks): "Mistress! What if the Guard is corrupt? What if he attacks me for no reason in a dark alley? Can I defend myself then?"
[Chat Block 23 - Answer] /me nods slowly. "A dangerous situation. Legally? You have the right to life. If a rogue Guard tries to murder you, you may defend yourself."
[Chat Block 24] "HOWEVER... proving it was self-defense will be very hard. It is your word against the Uniform. Unless you have witnesses—High Caste witnesses—you will likely lose that argument in court. The safest path is to submit, be arrested, and then demand an Advocate."
(Signal PLANT B)
[PLANT B QUESTION] (Plant asks): "Mistress, does this apply to foreign dignitaries? If I hit an Ambassador from Ar, do I lose my hand?"
[Chat Block 25 - Answer] /me grimaces. "You might lose your head. Remember Law 1.5.1 (Diplomats)."
[Chat Block 26] "Striking an Ambassador is an Act of War. The Ubar might execute you just to apologize to the city of Ar. Do not touch the guests."
🏁 THE CLOSING
[Chat Block 27] /me smooths her robes. "Violence is a tool. Use it carefully. If you strike the wrong target, the blow rebounds upon yourself."
[Chat Block 28] "Tomorrow is the end of Week 9. We have covered Theft, Arson, and Assault."
[Chat Block 29] "Day 5 will be an Open Forum. We will play a game called 'Judge the Crime' where you get to decide the sentence for complex cases. Bring your best judgment."
[Chat Block 30] "Thank you to our Storyteller. The Circle is closed!"
(Signal Crier/Slave to end.)
