W8D5 - Forum (Zoo of Teletus)

by Kati Evans

Here is the full production script for Week 8, Day 5.

To ensure this fills the 30–60 minute window, this script focuses on the "Meta-Physics" of Second Life roleplay (Meters, Emotes) disguised as In-Character Law. The interactive segment "The Leash Logic" is designed to spark debate, as animal players often test the boundaries of these rules.

Crucial Note: Ensure Plant A and Plant B are present. Their questions cover Liability and Stray Beasts, which are essential topics.

📜 SECOND LIFE SCRIPT: WEEK 8, DAY 5

Event: The Forum ("The Zoo of Teletus") Host: Kati Evans Target Duration: 40–50 Minutes (Interactive)

🟢 PRE-EVENT CHECKLIST

  • [ ] Rez the Stage.

  • [ ] Props: A Chain/Leash and perhaps a Coin Box.

  • [ ] Staff: Ensure Plant A and Plant B are in the audience.

  • [ ] 1:00 PM: Announce 5-minute gathering period.

🎤 PART 1: THE RECAP (Kati)

(Walk to the podium. Look relaxed. Smile at any animal avatars in the crowd.)

[Chat Block 1] /me steps onto the stage, resting her hands on the podium. She scans the crowd, nodding to the regulars. "Tal, Citizens. We have reached the end of Week 8. The week of Merchant Law & Beasts."

[Chat Block 2] "We have covered the Tools of the Trade. On Day 1, we learned how to use a Slave in a shop without breaking the law. On Day 2, we saw Merchant Tor ruined because he used a slave as a witness."

[Chat Block 3] "On Day 3, the Poet spoke of the Beast Within. And yesterday... we counted to three with Jace as the Tarsk taught him a bloody lesson."

[Chat Block 4] "Today, we end with the wildest element of our city: The Animals. We welcome the Sleen, the Panther, and the Kaiila. But a city is not a jungle. We have rules for the Zoo of Teletus."

🐾 PART 2: THE REALISM LECTURE (Meta-Laws)

[Chat Block 5] /me picks up the chain/leash from the podium and lets it dangle. "Law 5.9 is special. It governs creatures that cannot read. Therefore, the burden of the Law falls on the Player behind the mask."

[Chat Block 6] "Law 5.9.6: 'Do not be a Human in an animal suit.' This is the Golden Rule. If you are a sleen, do not sit on a barstool. Do not order a drink. Do not open a door handle with your paws. Be the beast."

[Chat Block 7] "Law 5.9.2: 'No beast may speak in Local.' You must Emote. A wolf does not say 'Hello.' A wolf growls. If you speak human words, you break the illusion of the city. Silence is your language."

[Chat Block 8] "Law 5.9.1: 'All beasts must wear the appropriate Beast Meter.' Just as Warriors wear the meter of steel, animals must wear the meter of claw. If you do not have one, you are a ghost. Go to the entrance and get one."

🔗 PART 3: THE LEASH LOGIC (Interactive Game)

[Chat Block 9] /me wraps the chain around her hand. "I want to play a game called 'The Leash Logic.' I will give you a scenario involving control. You tell me: Valid or Invalid?"

[Scenario 1] "Scenario 1: A Merchant ties his Sleen to a post outside the Inn with a heavy iron chain. He goes inside for two hours. The Sleen player gets bored, types /me chews through the iron chain, and runs away. Valid or Invalid?" (WAIT 30 SECONDS. Answer: INVALID.)

[Chat Block 10 - The Verdict] "Verdict: INVALID. Law 5.9.13. 'If you are tied or chained, you WILL stay tied.' Teeth cannot break iron. If you are tied, you are stuck until someone releases you. Do not roleplay super-strength."

[Scenario 2] "Scenario 2: A Slaver sends his Kajira to the market. She buys fruit. The Merchant hands the change directly into her open palm. She takes it. Valid or Invalid?" (WAIT 30 SECONDS. Answer: INVALID - Callback to Day 1.)

[Chat Block 11 - The Verdict] "Verdict: INVALID. Law 5.8.1. 'The handling of coin directly shall be reserved for the Free.' She cannot touch his hand. He must put the coin on the counter or in a box. If they touch, the Merchant has insulted the Customer."

[Scenario 3] "Scenario 3: A Panther (animal) wanders into a private home through an open door. The homeowner finds it sleeping on the rug and kills it without warning. Valid or Invalid?" (WAIT 30 SECONDS. This is tricky. Property rights vs. Animal rights.)

[Chat Block 12 - The Verdict] "Verdict: VALID. If a beast enters a private home uninvited, it is a threat. The Homeowner has the right to defend his hearth. However... it is polite to shoo it away first. But legally? You can mount its head on your wall."

❓ PART 4: THE OPEN FORUM (Q&A)

[Chat Block 13] /me returns to the podium. "I open The Circle to you. Ask me about Beasts, Slaves in Business, or Liability."

(WAIT 30 SECONDS. If silence, Signal PLANT A.)

[PLANT A QUESTION] (Plant asks): "Mistress! If my Sleen bites someone in the market, am I responsible? Or is the Sleen?"

[Chat Block 14 - Answer] /me nods gravely. "You are responsible. An animal is property. If your roof tile falls and hits a man, you pay. If your Sleen bites a man, you pay."

[Chat Block 15] "If the beast attacks without provocation, the Magistrate will fine the Master. If the beast kills someone? The Master may be charged with Negligence or Manslaughter. Control your pets."

(Signal PLANT B)

[PLANT B QUESTION] (Plant asks): "Mistress, what if I find a stray animal? Can I keep it?"

[Chat Block 16 - Answer] /me smiles. "It depends. Does it have a collar? Does it have a brand?"

[Chat Block 17] "If it is marked, it belongs to someone. Taking it is Theft. You should bring it to the Kennels. If it is unmarked and wild? It is game. You can hunt it, kill it, or try to tame it. But once you tame it, you are liable for its teeth."

🏁 THE CLOSING

[Chat Block 18] /me smooths her robes. "We have finished our time in the Market. We have counted coins and tamed beasts."

[Chat Block 19] "Next week, we draw our steel. Week 9: Criminal Law."

[Chat Block 20] "We will leave the polite world of trade and enter the dark world of Crime. We will discuss Theft and the exact price of an ear. We will discuss Assault and when you are allowed to kill."

[Chat Block 21] "It will be a bloody week. Bring a strong stomach."

[Chat Block 22] "The Circle is closed!"

(Signal Crier/Slave to end.)
