W6D4 - Story (Dance at Well)

by Kati Evans

Here is the full production script for Week 6, Day 4.

To ensure this fills the 30–60 minute window, the Storyteller portion is written as a vivid, slow-paced narrative. I have also included a post-story "Court of Public Opinion" segment where you ask the audience to judge at exactly which moment the girl lost her freedom.

Special Instruction: You must copy the "Part 2: The Story" section into a Notecard named Script: The Dance at the Well and give it to your Guest Speaker (or perform it yourself) before the event.

📜 SECOND LIFE SCRIPT: WEEK 6, DAY 4

  • [ ] 1:00 PM: Start formal RP. Announce 5-minute gathering.

🎤 PART 1: THE INTRODUCTION (Kati)

(Walk to the podium. Look out at the crowd, specifically the younger women.)

[Chat Block 1] /me steps onto the stage. She looks serious, her hands clasped in front of her robes. "Tal, Citizens. Welcome to Day 4 of The Circle."

[Chat Block 2] "This week, we have looked at the trap of Debt—where a woman loses her freedom because she spends too much. We looked at Voluntary Enslavement—where a woman chooses the collar to escape the burden of choice."

[Chat Block 3] "But there is a third way to fall into the trap. It is the most tragic, because it is accidental. It is the trap of Vanity."

[Chat Block 4] "Law 3.3.7 forbids 'Slave Dancing' in public. Many young women think this law is just old men being grumpy. They think, 'I just want to have fun. I just want to flirt.'"

[Chat Block 5] "Today, our Storyteller brings us the tale of 'The Dance at the Well.' It is the story of a girl named Lissa who thought she was just teasing the boys... until the Law stopped laughing."

/me steps down and takes a seat near the fire, gesturing for the Storyteller to take the chair.

📖 PART 2: THE STORY (For the Guest Speaker)

(Give this text to your Storyteller. They should paste one block at a time, allowing 15-20 seconds for the audience to read and visualize.)

[Block 1] /me sits in the storyteller's chair, tapping a finger on their knee to a silent rhythm. "Lissa was nineteen. She was the daughter of a Potter. She was pretty, and she knew it. She liked the way the Warriors looked at her when she walked to the market."

[Block 2] "It was the Festival of the Planting. The city was alive. Musicians were playing drums and flutes in the square by the Central Well. The paga was flowing. The air was hot."

[Block 3] "Lissa was there with her friends. She wore a respectable Low Caste tunic. But as the drums beat faster, Lissa felt the rhythm. She wanted to dance. She wanted to be seen."

[Block 4] "She stepped into the circle. At first, she danced the steps of a Free Woman—light, spinning, hands high. The crowd clapped. She smiled. But the applause was a drug. She wanted more."

[Block 5] "She saw a group of mercenaries watching. She wanted to shock them. She reached down and tucked the hem of her tunic into her belt, exposing her legs above the knee. Law 3.3.2—Immodesty."

[Block 6] "The drumming got louder. Lissa stopped spinning. She began to roll her hips. She arched her back. She mimicked the movements she had seen in the paga taverns. She danced the dance of the Pleasure Slave."

[Block 7] /me lowers voice, leaning forward. "She thought she was powerful. She thought she was controlling the men with her beauty. She did not see the man standing in the shadow of the Well."

[Block 8] "He was a Slaver. A professional. He watched her hips. He watched her eyes. He did not see a Free Woman having fun. He saw merchandise advertising itself."

[Block 9] "Lissa spun toward him, laughing, tossing her hair. The Slaver stepped forward. He did not smile. He reached out a hand and caught her wrist."

[Block 10] "'Let me go!' Lissa cried. 'I am a Free Woman!'"

[Block 11] "The Slaver shouted over the music. 'Free Women do not dance the kalana steps! Free Women do not bare their thighs to strangers! You advertise wares, girl. And I am buying.'"

[Block 12] "The Guards came. Lissa expected them to save her. But the Guard looked at her exposed legs. He looked at the Slaver. And he shrugged. 'If she dances like a kajira,' the Guard said, 'she is a kajira.'"

[Block 13] /me stops tapping the rhythm. Silence. "They collared her right there, by the well, while the music played. She walked home that night not to her father's house, but to the Kennels. She flirted with the trap, and the trap snapped shut."

(The Storyteller bows/nods.)

🎤 PART 3: THE ANALYSIS (Kati Returns)

(Walk back to the podium.)

[Chat Block 14] /me stands and nods to the Storyteller. "Terrifying. Lissa went from Citizen to Property in the space of one song."

[Chat Block 15] "Why did the Law allow this? Because in Gor, Action defines Status."

[Chat Block 16] "Law 3.3.7 exists to protect the distinction between the Free and the Slave. If Free Women act like Slaves, the line blurs. The City requires Order. Therefore, if you cross the line of behavior, the Law pushes you all the way over."

[Chat Block 17] "Lissa's crime was not dancing. Her crime was Appropriation. She stole the movements of the slave without accepting the submission of the slave. The Slaver simply corrected her error."

⚖️ PART 4: THE COURT OF OPINION (Interactive)

[Chat Block 18] /me looks out at the gathered citizens. "I want to analyze Lissa's downfall. I will name the moments of her dance. You tell me: Was she Safe or Lost at that moment?"

[Moment 1] "Moment 1: She steps into the circle and dances the traditional spinning steps of the Free. Safe or Lost?" (WAIT. Answer: SAFE.)

[Chat Block 19] "Verdict: SAFE. Joy is allowed. Dancing is allowed."

[Moment 2] "Moment 2: She tucks her skirt into her belt, exposing her thighs to the crowd. Safe or Lost?" (WAIT. Answer: DANGEROUS/LOST.)

[Chat Block 20] "Verdict: DANGEROUS. This is Law 3.3.2 (Immodesty). She hasn't danced like a slave yet, but she is now dressed like one. She is standing on the edge of the cliff."

[Moment 3] "Moment 3: She rolls her hips and mimics the motions of the Paga Girl. Safe or Lost?" (WAIT. Answer: LOST.)

[Chat Block 21] "Verdict: LOST. That is the moment she died as a Citizen. The specific movements of the Pleasure Slave are a signature. By signing that signature with her body, she consented to the status."

❓ Q&A SEGMENT

[Chat Block 22] "I will take questions now regarding Public Conduct, Festivals, or the definition of 'Slave Dancing.'"

(Signal PLANT A)

[PLANT A QUESTION] (Plant asks): "Mistress! I am a Low Caste woman. Can I dance for my husband in the privacy of our bedroom? Or is that illegal too?"

[Chat Block 23 - Answer] /me smiles gently. "The Law stops at your doorstep. Law 1.7 gives the Head of Household privacy."

[Chat Block 24] "What you do for your husband in private is between you and him. If you wish to dance for him, do so. But ensure the curtains are drawn. If the neighbors see it through the window... it becomes Public Lewdness."

(Signal PLANT B)

[PLANT B QUESTION] (Plant asks): "Mistress, what if I am drunk? Does the law show mercy if Lissa was just tipsy?"

[Chat Block 25 - Answer] /me shakes her head sternly. "No. Alcohol is not an excuse; it is an aggravation."

[Chat Block 26] "Law 3.3.11 states that a Free Woman who is habitually drunk in public acts in a Slave-Like manner. A Free Woman is expected to have self-control. If you drink enough to forget your station, you prove that you need a Master to control you."

🏁 THE CLOSING

[Chat Block 27] /me smooths her robes. "Ladies, have fun at the festivals. Dance. Laugh. But remember who you are."

[Chat Block 28] "Do not borrow the habits of the slave unless you are willing to pay the price of the slave."

[Chat Block 29] "Tomorrow, we end Week 6 with an Open Forum. We will play the final game of 'Safe or Slave' and review everything we have learned about the Trap. Bring your questions."

[Chat Block 30] "Thank you to our Storyteller. The Circle is closed!"

(Signal Crier/Slave to end.)
