W5D1 - Lecture (Dress Code)

by Kati Evans

Here is the full production script for Week 5, Day 1.

To ensure this fills the 30–60 minute window, this script includes a detailed breakdown of "Caste-Specific" dress codes and an interactive "Visual Inspection" segment where you ask the audience to critique hypothetical outfits.

πŸ“œ SECOND LIFE SCRIPT: WEEK 5, DAY 1

🎀 PART 1: THE WELCOME (The Jewel in the Box)

(Walk to the podium. Adjust your own robes/veil to look impeccable.)

[Chat Block 1] /me steps up to the podium. She adjusts the folds of her robes, ensuring she presents an image of perfect Gorean modesty. "Tal, Citizens. Welcome to Week 5 of The Circle."

[Chat Block 2] "We enter a new phase today. We leave the dusty books of Taxes and Inheritance behind. Today, we speak of something beautiful, dangerous, and vital: The Free Woman."

[Chat Block 3] "I see the ladies in the crowd. I see the men who guard them. In other worlds, women are taught to flaunt. They show their skin to strangers like a merchant displaying meat in a window."

[Chat Block 4] "Here, we know the truth. What is precious must be wrapped. You do not throw a diamond in the gutter; you keep it in a velvet box. That box is the Robe of Concealment. That box is Law 3.2."

πŸ‘˜ PART 2: THE HIGH CASTE (The Mystery)

[Chat Block 5] /me touches the edge of her veil (or gestures to her face). "Let us speak first of the High Caste. The Scribes, the Builders, the Warriors, the Physicians."

[Chat Block 6] "Law 3.2.2 is specific. High Caste women shall wear the Veil. Why? Is it to silence us? No. It is to protect us."

[Chat Block 7] "The Veil creates a boundary. It says: 'My mind is for the public; my face is for my Companion.' When a man speaks to a Veiled woman, he must speak to her words, not her lips. It commands respect."

[Chat Block 8] "And the hair... listen closely. Law 3.2.2 says hair must be 'up and off the shoulders.' In Gor, loose hair is a signal of the bedroom. It is an intimacy. To walk the street with hair flowing down your back is to invite a man to touch it."

πŸ› ️ PART 3: THE LOW CASTE (The Function)

[Chat Block 9] /me looks to the tradeswomen in the crowd. "Now, to the Low Caste. The Bakers, the Potters, the Artisans. Law 3.2.3."

[Chat Block 10] "You are not required to Veil, though you may choose to. You have work to do. You have heat to manage. But the Law of Modesty still applies."

[Chat Block 11] "You must secure your hair. You must cover your body. Law 3.2.1 forbids 'sheer or transparent robes.' If the sun hits your skirt and we can see the outline of your leg... you are not dressed as a Free Woman. You are dressed as a slave."

[Chat Block 12] "If you dress like property, do not be surprised if a Slaver treats you like merchandise. Your robe is your shield. Do not drop your shield."

πŸ‘️ PART 4: THE VISUAL INSPECTION (Interactive)

[Chat Block 13] /me leans forward on the podium. "I want to play a game of 'Safe or Slave.' I will describe an outfit. You tell me if it violates the Law."

[Chat Block 14] "Outfit 1: A High Caste woman wearing a long robe of red silk. It covers her neck to her feet. But the silk is so thin that you can see her skin underneath. Is this legal?" (WAIT for audience to shout "No" or "Illegal".)

[Chat Block 15] "Verdict: ILLEGAL. Law 3.2.1. Robes of Concealment must conceal. Transparent silk is for the pleasure gardens, not the Council hall."

[Chat Block 16] "Outfit 2: A Low Caste Baker. She wears a simple brown tunic. Her arms are bare to the elbow so she can knead dough. Her hair is in a tight bun. Is this legal?" (WAIT. Answer is Yes.)

[Chat Block 17] "Verdict: LEGAL. Law 3.2.4. Low Caste women may expose lower arms when necessary for caste duties. She is modest, and she is working. That is honorable."

❓ PART 5: Q&A SEGMENT (Extending Time)

[Chat Block 18] /me takes a sip of water. "I will take questions now regarding Dress, Modesty, or the Veil."

(Signal PLANT A)

[PLANT A QUESTION] (Plant asks): "Mistress! It is hot in the bakery. Can I just put my hair in a ponytail to keep it off my neck?"

[Chat Block 19 - Answer] /me narrows her eyes. "No. Never."

[Chat Block 20] "Law 3.2.3 specifically forbids 'ponytails or slave-like hairstyles.' A ponytail is a handle. It is how a Master grabs a slave. It exposes the neck for the collar."

[Chat Block 21] "Use a pin. Use a net. Use a scarf. But do not wear the hairstyle of the kennel. It sends the wrong signal to the men of this city."

(Signal PLANT B)

[PLANT B QUESTION] (Plant asks): "Mistress, what if a man insults me in the street? Can I hit him?"

[Chat Block 22 - Answer] /me shakes her head firmly. "No. You are a Lady, not a brawler. If you fight in the dirt, you get dirty."

[Chat Block 23] "If a man insults you, you report him to your Companion, your Father, or a Magistrate. Let the men use their fists. Your weapon is your Dignity. If you scream and fight, you look like a common wench, and the Magistrate will have little sympathy."

(Optional: Signal PLANT C if you need more time)

[PLANT C QUESTION] (Plant asks): "Mistress, I am a Free Woman but I like to swim. Can I wear... less... at the beach?"

[Chat Block 24 - Answer] /me pauses. "If the beach is private? Perhaps. If it is public? Be very careful."

[Chat Block 25] "Law 3.3.2 says appearing in public immodestly is 'Slave-Like Behavior.' If you are nearly naked in public, a Slaver might claim you are advertising yourself. Swim in private waters, or keep your robe close."

🏁 THE CLOSING

[Chat Block 26] /me smooths her robes. "Ladies, check your mirrors before you leave your homes. Your Robes are your armor against a harsh world."

[Chat Block 27] "Tomorrow, we move to the stage. Our players will perform a drama titled 'The Tavern Mistake.'"

[Chat Block 28] "We will see what happens when a 'Nice Girl' thinks she can go to a tavern without an escort. It is a lesson in geography: there are places a Lady simply does not go."

[Chat Block 29] "Dismissed!"

(Signal Crier/Slave to end.)
