W3D5 - Forum (Finding Your Place)

by Kati Evans

Here is the full production script for Week 3, Day 5.

To ensure this fills the 30–60 minute window, this script features a highly interactive segment called "The Sorting Ceremony." This mimics the Gorean process of the Caste of Initiates testing children, but adapted for new players/citizens.

Crucial Note: Ensure Plant A and Plant B are present. If no actual newbies volunteer for the Sorting, you must use a Plant to demonstrate, or the event will be too short.

📜 SECOND LIFE SCRIPT: WEEK 3, DAY 5

Event: The Forum (The Sorting Ceremony) Host: Kati Evans Target Duration: 40–50 Minutes (Interactive)

🟢 PRE-EVENT CHECKLIST

  • [ ] Rez the Stage.

  • [ ] Staff: Ensure Plant A and Plant B are present.

  • [ ] Props: If you have a specific "Caste Chair" or a prop book (The Ledger of Castes), rez it.

  • [ ] 1:00 PM: Announce 5-minute gathering period.

🎤 PART 1: THE RECAP (Kati)

(Walk to the podium. Look authoritative yet welcoming.)

[Chat Block 1] /me steps onto the stage, smoothing her robes. She nods to the gathered citizens. "Tal, Citizens. We have reached the end of Week 3. The week of the Caste System."

[Chat Block 2] "It has been an enlightening week. On Day 1, we looked at the Pyramid—the High and Low Castes. On Day 2, we watched the comedy of Varus, who tried to be a Warrior with a rolling pin."

[Chat Block 3] "On Day 3, the Poet showed us the Wheel—how the Warrior needs the Baker. And yesterday, we heard the tragedy of Torgus, who refused to retire and lost everything."

[Chat Block 4] "Today, we turn to you. I see faces in this crowd who wear the grey of the un-casted, or the simple tunics of the new arrival. You are asking: 'Where do I fit?'"

[Chat Block 5] "Law 2.1.1 mandates that every Free Person must have a Caste. You cannot drift forever. Today, The Circle will help you find your place."

⚖️ PART 2: THE SORTING CEREMONY (Interactive)

[Chat Block 6] /me steps out from behind the podium and points to a stool/chair in the center of the rug. "This is the Chair of Decision. I invite anyone who is Un-Casted, or anyone questioning their path, to sit here."

[Chat Block 7] "I will ask you three questions. Based on your answers, The Circle will recommend your Caste. Who is brave enough to be judged?"

(WAIT 30 SECONDS. If a real player steps up, use them. If not, signal PLANT A to step up.)

[INTERVIEW SCRIPT - Use this for whoever sits]

[Chat Block 8] /me looks closely at the volunteer. "Tal. You seek a place in the Great Wheel. Answer me honestly. Question One: Do you prefer the silence of a library, the noise of a market, or the clash of steel?"

(Wait for answer. Improvise a nod based on what they say.)

[Chat Block 9] "Question Two: When you see a problem—a broken wall, a sick child, or a dispute—is your first instinct to fix it with your hands, or fix it with your words?"

(Wait for answer.)

[Chat Block 10] "Question Three: Do you seek Glory, Gold, or Knowledge?"

(Wait for answer.)

[THE VERDICT - Choose one based on their answers]

  • Option A (Warrior/Guard): "You seek steel and glory. Your blood runs hot. You belong to the Red Caste. Go to the Warriors. Ask for a sword."

  • Option B (Scribe/Initiate): "You seek knowledge and silence. Your mind is your weapon. You belong to the Blue or the White. Go to the Scribes or the Temple."

  • Option C (Merchant/Artisan): "You seek gold and the noise of the trade. You belong to the Low Castes. Become a Merchant, a Smith, or an Artisan. Feed the city."

[Chat Block 11] "The Circle has spoken. But remember Law 2.2.4: We have named your path, but you must walk it. You must find a mentor and complete your apprenticeship. The title is earned, not given. You may step down."

(Repeat this process with a second person/Plant B if time allows.)

🗣️ PART 3: THE OPEN FORUM (Q&A)

[Chat Block 12] /me returns to the podium. "Now, I open The Circle for general questions regarding the Castes, the High Council, or the duties of the Free."

(WAIT 30 SECONDS. If silence, Signal PLANT A.)

[PLANT A QUESTION] (Plant asks): "Mistress! I am a Free Woman. I want to carry a sword and fight on the walls. Can I join the Warrior Caste?"

[Chat Block 13 - Answer] /me sighs, but gives a patient smile. "This question is asked often. Law 2.1.7 states Free Women may hold membership in most Castes. However..."

[Chat Block 14] "While the Law does not explicitly forbid it, Tradition and Biology usually do. The Warrior Caste is the shield wall. It requires brute strength to hold the line against a tharlarion charge."

[Chat Block 15] "A woman is usually better suited to the Scribes, the Physicians, the Builders, or the Merchants. There, her mind and dexterity are valued. Use your gifts where they fit. Do not try to be a man; be a strong woman of Teletus."

(Signal PLANT B)

[PLANT B QUESTION] (Plant asks): "Mistress, if I marry (Companion) a man of the Scribes, do I become a Scribe automatically? Or do I stay a peasant?"

[Chat Block 16 - Answer] /me nods. "Excellent question. Law 2.2.5. A Free Woman may assume the Caste of her Companion. You take his color. You take his rank."

[Chat Block 17] "BUT... you cannot perform the duties until you are trained. You may wear the Blue of the Scribe because of your Companion, but if you cannot read, you cannot work in the library. You gain the status, but you must earn the skill."

🏁 THE CLOSING

[Chat Block 18] /me looks at the hourglass. "The sun moves on. You have survived Week 3."

[Chat Block 19] "Next week, we move from the street to the home. Week 4: Duty & The Household."

[Chat Block 20] "We will discuss Taxes (how much you owe), Inheritance (who gets your coin when you die), and the authority of the Head of Household."

[Chat Block 21] "Fathers, bring your families. Husbands, bring your Companions. The laws of the hearth affect us all."

[Chat Block 22] "Go to your Caste Halls. Get to work. The Circle is closed!"

(Signal Crier/Slave to end.)
