W3D1 - Lecture (The Mandate)

by Kati Evans

Here is the full production script for Week 3, Day 1.

To hit the 30–60 minute target, this script goes deep into the philosophy of the Caste System, explaining not just the rules, but the why. It also includes an interactive "Roll Call" segment to engage the audience.

📜 SECOND LIFE SCRIPT: WEEK 3, DAY 1

🎤 PART 1: THE WELCOME & THE CONCEPT

(Walk to the podium. Wait for the crowd. Look authoritative.)

[Chat Block 1] /me steps up to the podium. She looks out over the crowd, her eyes lingering on the different colors of robes and tunics worn by the citizens. "Tal, Citizens of Teletus. Welcome to Week 3 of The Circle."

[Chat Block 2] "We have spoken of the Ubar. We have spoken of the Gates. Now, we speak of Us. Look around you. Look at your neighbor. What do you see?"

[Chat Block 3] "In other worlds, a crowd is just a mob. Chaos. Disorder. But here... here we see structure. We see the White of the Initiate. The Red of the Warrior. The Brown of the Peasant."

[Chat Block 4] "Today, we talk about the Caste System. It is not just a job. It is your soul. It is the definition of who you are from the moment you wake until the moment you sleep."

⚖️ PART 2: THE MANDATE (Law 2.1)

[Chat Block 5] /me opens the Book of Law with a heavy thud. "Law 2.1.1 is the most important rule of your daily life. Listen well: 'All the free of Teletus must be within a caste, and remain active in their caste.'"

[Chat Block 6] "There is no such thing in Teletus as 'Just a Traveler' who stays forever. There is no such thing as 'Just a Man.' You are a Baker. You are a Scribe. You are a Smith."

[Chat Block 7] "If you do not belong to a Caste, you are something else. You are an Outlaw. And Outlaws have no rights. An Outlaw can be killed without penalty. An Outlaw can be enslaved without trial. To be Caste-less is to be defenseless."

[Chat Block 8] "Law 2.1.5 grants new arrivals a grace period. You have 3 hands (15 days) to find a Caste. Use that time wisely. Do not loiter in the taverns drinking away your grace period, or you will wake up on the sixteenth day with a collar around your neck."

🔺 PART 3: THE PYRAMID (High vs. Low)

[Chat Block 9] /me gestures with a sweeping hand. "Our society is built like a pyramid. At the top are the High Castes. They sit on the High Council. They guide the ship of state."

[Chat Block 10] "The Initiates (White): The voice of the Priest-Kings. The Scribes (Blue): The keepers of Law and History. The Physicians (Green): The healers of the blood. The Builders (Yellow): The architects of the walls. The Warriors (Red): The steel that defends us."

[Chat Block 11] "If you see these colors, show respect. They bear the weight of governance."

[Chat Block 12] /me softens her tone, looking at the tradesmen in the crowd. "Below them are the Low Castes. Merchants, Peasants, Artisans, Entertainers, Metalworkers. Do not let the word 'Low' fool you. 'Low' does not mean 'Worthless.' It means 'Foundation.'"

[Chat Block 13] "Without the Baker, the Warrior starves. Without the Mason, the Scribe has no roof for his scrolls. Without the Metalworker, the Physician has no scalpel. We are a machine. If one gear breaks, the machine stops."

🛠️ PART 4: THE REQUIREMENTS (No Fakes)

[Chat Block 14] /me leans forward, her expression stern. "But listen to me carefully: You cannot just put on a robe and say, 'I am a Physician' because you like the color Green."

[Chat Block 15] "Law 2.2.4 says full membership is only granted upon satisfaction of training. You must be an apprentice. You must learn the trade. Only the Head of Caste can say you are ready."

[Chat Block 16] "Do not fake your Caste. Law 4.3.5 says: 'Any Free Person falsely claiming membership in a Caste... shall be subject to fines or enslavement.'"

[Chat Block 17] "If you wear the Red of the Warrior but cannot swing a sword... you are a fraud. If you wear the Blue of the Scribe but cannot read... you are a criminal. Do not dress for the job you want. Dress for the job you know."

🗣️ PART 5: THE ROLL CALL (Interactive)

[Chat Block 18] "I want to see who stands with us today. I want to see the colors of Teletus."

[Chat Block 19] "If you are of the High Castes, raise your hand and shout your color!" (WAIT 15 Seconds. Acknowledge them: "I see the Red," "I see the Blue.")

[Chat Block 20] "If you are of the Low Castes—the Merchants, the Artisans, the Peasants—raise your hand and shout your trade!" (WAIT 15 Seconds. Acknowledge them: "The City needs bread," "The City needs coin.")

[Chat Block 21] "And if you are Un-Casted... if you are new... stand tall. Look around you. These are your options. Find a mentor before your 15 days are up."

❓ PART 6: Q&A SEGMENT (Extending Time)

[Chat Block 22] /me takes a sip of water. "We have time for questions regarding the Caste Laws, the Mandate, or how to join."

(WAIT. If silence, Signal PLANT A.)

[PLANT A QUESTION] (Plant asks): "Mistress! I am a man of many talents. Can I be a Warrior AND a Scribe? Can I hold two Castes?"

[Chat Block 23 - Answer] /me shakes her head. "No. Law 2.2.6 is clear: 'A Free Person may hold membership in only one Caste.'"

[Chat Block 24] "You cannot serve two masters. You cannot drill with the Warriors all day and copy scrolls all night. You must choose your path. You may own a business related to your skill, but your Caste is singular."

(Signal PLANT B)

[PLANT B QUESTION] (Plant asks): "Mistress, I am a Free Woman. I want to join the Warriors. I am good with a knife. Can I?"

[Chat Block 25 - Answer] /me smiles gently but firmly. "A common question. Law 2.1.7 says Free Women may hold membership in most Castes... except the Initiates or the Assassins. However..."

[Chat Block 26] "While the law does not explicitly forbid a woman from the Warrior Caste, Tradition and Biology usually do. The Warrior Caste is the Caste of the Spear and Shield wall. It requires brute strength."

[Chat Block 27] "A woman is better suited to the Scribes, the Builders, the Physicians, or the Merchants. There, her mind can be sharper than any sword. Use your gifts where they fit best."

🏁 THE CLOSING

[Chat Block 28] /me closes the book. "You have your Mandate. Find your place. Work hard. Serve the Home Stone through your labor."

[Chat Block 29] "Tomorrow, we move to the stage. Our players will perform 'The Drifter's Error.'"

[Chat Block 30] "It is a comedy about a man who thought he could change his Caste as easily as changing his tunic. He learned the hard way that paperwork is sharper than steel."

[Chat Block 31] "Dismissed!"

(Signal Crier/Slave to end.)
