W2D5 - Forum (Safety Q&A)

by Kati Evans

Here is the full production script for Week 2, Day 5.

To ensure this fills the 30–60 minute window, this script relies on a specific interactive exercise called "The Line of Safety," followed by a robust Q&A.

Crucial Note: Ensure Plant A and Plant B are present. Day 5 is an "Open Forum," and if the audience is quiet, the event will end too quickly without your Plants to spark the conversation.

πŸ“œ SECOND LIFE SCRIPT: WEEK 2, DAY 5

Event: The Forum ("Am I Safe Here?") Host: Kati Evans Target Duration: 40–50 Minutes (Interactive)

🟒 PRE-EVENT CHECKLIST

  • [ ] Rez the Stage.

  • [ ] Staff: Ensure Plant A and Plant B are in the audience and have their Question Notecards.

  • [ ] 1:00 PM: Announce 5-minute gathering period.

🎀 PART 1: THE RECAP (Kati)

(Walk to the podium. Look relaxed. This is a discussion, not a lecture.)

[Chat Block 1] /me steps onto the stage, resting her hands on the podium. She smiles, looking over the familiar faces who have returned all week. "Tal, Citizens. We have reached the end of our second week at The Circle."

[Chat Block 2] "We have spent four days standing at the City Gates. On Day 1, we learned the difference between a Citizen and a Visitor. On Day 2, we watched the Guard turn away the arrogant Merchant and the wild Panther."

[Chat Block 3] "On Day 3, the Poet sang of the Golden Slash that protects the Diplomat. And yesterday, we heard the dark tale of the Assassin who walks where he pleases."

[Chat Block 4] "The question I hear most often from new arrivals—and even from nervous Citizens—is simple: 'Am I safe here?'"

[Chat Block 5] "Today, we answer that. But the answer is not a simple 'Yes' or 'No.' It depends on who you are, and where you stand."

πŸ›‘️ PART 2: THE LINE OF SAFETY (Visualization)

[Chat Block 6] /me steps out from behind the podium to the center of the rug. "I want you to imagine a line drawn in the dust at the City Gate. A line of salt and iron."

[Chat Block 7] "Outside that line, you are in the Wild. In the Wild, the only law is Strength. If a sleen eats you, it is nature. If an outlaw enslaves you, it is bad luck. The City owes you nothing once you step into the grass."

[Chat Block 8] "Inside that line, the Home Stone radiates protection. But only if you respect it."

[Chat Block 9] "Law 1.5.2 says: 'All visitors are subject to Isle law.' This is the Trap of Safety. Many visitors think, 'I am safe here, so I can do what I want.' No."

[Chat Block 10] "If you are a visitor and you steal an apple, you do not get a warning because you are a foreigner. You get your ear notched like anyone else. The Safety of the City protects you from others, but it does not protect you from the Law."

πŸ—£️ PART 3: SCENARIO REVIEW (Interactive)

[Chat Block 11] /me returns to the podium. "Let us test your knowledge from this week. I will give you a scenario. You tell me: Safe or Unsafe?"

[Chat Block 12] "Scenario 1: A Free Woman walks alone from the Market to the Temple of Initiates in broad daylight. Safe or Unsafe?"

(WAIT 15-20 SECONDS for audience to shout answers.)

[Chat Block 13 - The Verdict] "Answer: SAFE. Law 3.1.2 says Free Women may move freely throughout the Isle. Within the walls, she is protected. If anyone touches her, the Guards will respond."

[Chat Block 14] "Scenario 2: That same Free Woman decides to pick flowers in the woods outside the gate, just ten yards away. Safe or Unsafe?"

(WAIT 15-20 SECONDS for audience.)

[Chat Block 15 - The Verdict] "Answer: UNSAFE. Law 3.1.2 strongly advises taking a Guard or Warrior when traveling beyond town limits. The moment she crosses the threshold, the City's shield drops. A slaver hiding in the bushes does not care about her Caste."

[Chat Block 16] "Scenario 3: A visitor from Ar gets into a drunken brawl with a Citizen of Teletus. The Citizen started it. Is the Visitor safe from arrest?"

(WAIT 15-20 SECONDS for audience - this is a trick.)

[Chat Block 17 - The Verdict] "Answer: UNSAFE. While the Citizen may be punished for starting it, the Visitor is subject to Isle Law. If the Visitor draws steel? He is arrested. The Law punishes the act, not just the instigator. Do not fight in a strange city. You will lose."

❓ PART 4: THE OPEN FORUM (Q&A)

[Chat Block 18] /me leans on the podium, looking expectant. "Now, I open The Circle to you. We have discussed Entry, Exit, and Safety. What questions do you have about the Gates?"

(WAIT 30 SECONDS. If the audience asks real questions, answer them. If silence, Signal PLANT A.)

[PLANT A QUESTION] (Plant asks): "Mistress, if I am a Citizen, can I leave the city whenever I want? Or am I locked in during times of trouble?"

[Chat Block 19 - Answer] /me nods approvingly. "A vital question. You are free. Law 1.5.1 says Citizens hold keys to the city. You may enter and depart freely."

[Chat Block 20] "We are not a prison. If you wish to leave, the Gate opens for you. However, during War, the High Council may seal the gates for defense. In peace? You come and go as you please. But remember the risk of the Wild."

(Signal PLANT B)

[PLANT B QUESTION] (Plant asks): "Mistress, I saw a man with the Black Dagger mark. Should I call the guards? I don't feel safe with him here."

[Chat Block 21 - Answer] /me lowers her voice. "No. Do not call the guards. Law 1.5.5 allows Assassins to enter freely. They walk in the shadows."

[Chat Block 22] "Listen to me: If an Assassin is here for you, calling the guards will not help. If he is not here for you, you are safer ignoring him. Unless he draws his weapon to kill, he is not to be hindered. Do not annoy him, and he will likely ignore you."

(Optional: Signal PLANT C if you need more time)

[PLANT C QUESTION] (Plant asks): "Mistress, what if a slave tries to leave the city alone?"

[Chat Block 23 - Answer] /me frowns. "That is Escape. Law 6.3.8. If a slave is found at the gate without a Master or a pass, she is detained. If she tries to run? She is hamstrung. The Gate is open for the Free, not for the property."

🏁 THE CLOSING

[Chat Block 24] /me looks at the hourglass on the podium. "The sun moves on, and so must we. You have survived Week 2."

[Chat Block 25] "Next week, we enter the structure of our daily lives. Week 3: The Caste System."

[Chat Block 26] "We will discuss the Mandate: Why everyone must have a Caste. We will talk about the 'Outlaw' status. And for those of you who are new and un-casted... we will help you find your place in the wheel of society."

[Chat Block 27] "Go forth. Watch the Gate. Obey the Law. The Circle is closed!"

(Signal Crier/Slave to end.)
