Here is the full production script for Week 2, Day 3.
To ensure this event fills the 30–60 minute window, the focus today is on the Sanctity of the Messenger. Since poetry readings can be short, I have added a section discussing Entertainers/Poets (who also share this immunity under Law 1.5.3), which allows you to engage the Poet character in the discussion.
Special Instruction: You must copy the "Part 2: The Poem" section into a Notecard and give it to your Poet (from Aria’s team) before the event.
π SECOND LIFE SCRIPT: WEEK 2, DAY 3
Event: The Poet's Corner ("The Golden Slash") Host: Kati Evans Guest Performer: The Poet (Aria or designate) Target Duration: 35–45 Minutes
π’ PRE-EVENT CHECKLIST
[ ] Rez the Stage. (Consider adding a "Golden Sash" prop or texture to the podium if you have one).
[ ] The Poet: Ensure they have the poem text notecard.
[ ] 1:00 PM: Start formal RP. Announce 5-minute gathering.
π€ PART 1: THE INTRODUCTION (Kati)
(Walk to the podium. Wait for the crowd. Keep the tone respectful.)
[Chat Block 1] /me steps up to the podium. She does not look at her notes today; instead, she looks at the horizon beyond the city walls. "Tal, Citizens. Welcome to Day 3 of The Circle."
[Chat Block 2] "Yesterday, we saw the Guard stop the Merchant and the Panther at the gate. But we also saw him bow to the Herald. He let the man with the Gold Slash pass without question."
[Chat Block 3] "Why? In a world of steel and blood, why do we let an unarmed man walk into our heart? Because without the Messenger, there is only War."
[Chat Block 4] "Law 1.5.1 grants Diplomatic Entry. It protects the Emissaries, Ambassadors, and Heralds. It says that a strip of gold cloth is stronger than a shield of iron."
[Chat Block 5] "To honor this ancient code, I have invited a voice from the Caste of Singers. I present to you [Poet's Name], who will recite a piece titled 'The Golden Slash.'"
/me steps back from the podium and gestures for the Poet to take the center stage.
π PART 2: THE POEM (For the Actor/Poet)
(Give this text to your Poet. They should paste one stanza at a time, waiting 15 seconds between each.)
[Stanza 1] /me stands tall, placing a hand over their chest as if tracing a sash. "The spears are sharp, the walls are high, Beneath the burning Gorean sky. Where strangers tread with fearful feet, And steel and bone in battle meet. No sword I carry, no shield I bear, Only the gold across the air."
[Stanza 2] /me walks slowly to the edge of the rug, looking the audience in the eye. "I am the Voice of distant Kings, I ride upon the kailla's wings. I carry words of peace or war, To open up the iron door. The Guard who stops the army's path, Must bow before the Golden Sash."
[Stanza 3] /me raises a finger in warning. "Strike me down, and you strike the Throne, Break my bone, and you break your own. For I am not a man of flesh, But a thread within the diplomatic mesh. To kill the herald is to kill the light, And plunge the world into endless night."
[Stanza 4] /me bows their head respectfully to the Magistrate (Kati). "So let me pass, O Guard of Stone, I walk this dangerous road alone. Protected by the ancient Law, That holds the beast of war in awe. The Gold Slash burns upon my breast, The sacred seal of the Guest."
(The Poet bows deeply to the crowd.)
π€ PART 3: THE ANALYSIS (Kati Returns)
(Wait for applause. Walk back to the podium.)
[Chat Block 6] /me returns to the podium. "Thank you, [Poet's Name]. 'To kill the herald is to kill the light.' That is the truth of it."
[Chat Block 7] "If we kill the messengers, we can never negotiate peace. We can never trade. We can never grow. That is why Law 1.5.1 is sacred. Even if the Herald brings bad news... even if he declares war... he must leave the city unharmed. We do not shoot the messenger."
[Chat Block 8] "But there is another group protected by this law. Law 1.5.3 mentions Entertainers, Players, Poets, and Musicians."
[Chat Block 9] "They are called the 'Birds of Passage.' They may enter freely. They are not enslaved (usually). Why? Because a world without song is a dull world. Even the Ubar needs to laugh. Even the Warrior needs a song."
π£️ PART 4: DISCUSSION (Time Filler)
[Chat Block 10] /me looks at the Poet, who is still on stage. "I want to ask our Poet a question. As a member of the Singers, do you feel safe traveling the roads of Gor? Or is the Law just paper?"
(The Poet should improvise a "Yes/No" answer, or use the line below if they aren't comfortable improvising.)
[Poet's Scripted Response - Optional] /me nods slowly. "The Law protects us in the cities, Magistrate. But on the road? A sleen cannot read the law. And outlaws do not care for poetry. We travel with guards when we can."
[Chat Block 11] /me nods in agreement. "Wise words. The Law extends only as far as the Ubar's sword."
❓ Q&A SEGMENT
[Chat Block 12] "I will take questions now regarding Diplomats, Messengers, or the rights of Entertainers."
(Signal PLANT A)
[PLANT A QUESTION] (Plant asks): "Mistress, what if a Diplomat comes here and insults us? Can we hit him then?"
[Chat Block 13 - Answer] /me shakes her head firmly. "No. A Diplomat's tongue is his weapon. He may insult us. He may threaten us. That is his job."
[Chat Block 14] "If you strike him, you are not defending your honor; you are causing a diplomatic incident. You leave him to the High Council. They have words sharp enough to cut him back."
(Signal PLANT B)
[PLANT B QUESTION] (Plant asks): "Mistress, does the immunity apply to everyone with him? Or just him?"
[Chat Block 15 - Answer] /me leans forward. "It applies to his entourage if they are declared. His scribe, his slaves, his guards. However... if his guard draws a weapon on our guard? The immunity ends. The Gold Slash protects the voice, not the violence."
π THE CLOSING
[Chat Block 16] /me smiles. "Tomorrow, we turn from the bright gold of the diplomat to the dark shadow of the assassin."
[Chat Block 17] "We will have a Guest Speaker tell the story of 'The Shadow and The Savage'—a comparison of how the city treats a Black Dagger versus a Panther Girl."
[Chat Block 18] "Thank you, [Poet's Name], for your art. And thank you, Citizens, for your ears. The Circle is closed!"
(Signal Crier/Slave to end.)
