W1D4 - Story (Man with Two Faces)

by Kati Evans

Here is the full production script for Week 1, Day 4.

To ensure this fills the 30–60 minute requirement, the Storyteller portion is substantial. The Guest Speaker needs to read slowly and allow the audience to visualize the scenes.

Special Instruction: You need to copy the "Part 2: The Story" section into a Notecard and give it to your Guest Speaker (or perform it yourself if no guest is available) before the event.

📜 SECOND LIFE SCRIPT: WEEK 1, DAY 4

Event: The Storyteller ("The Man with Two Faces") Host: Kati Evans Guest Performer: The Storyteller (Kimba Molden or Guest) Target Duration: 40–50 Minutes

🟢 PRE-EVENT CHECKLIST

  • [ ] Rez the Stage. (Add comfortable rugs/pillows for "Story time" vibe).

  • [ ] The Storyteller: Ensure they have the script notecard.

  • [ ] 1:00 PM: Start formal RP. Announce 5-minute gathering.

🎤 PART 1: THE INTRODUCTION (Kati)

(Walk to the podium. Wait for the crowd. Signal the start.)

[Chat Block 1] /me steps onto the stage. The atmosphere today is quieter, more intimate. She leans against the podium rather than standing stiffly behind it. "Tal, Citizens. Welcome to Day 4 of The Circle."

[Chat Block 2] "We have learned the Code. We have seen the Play. We have heard the Poem. Today, we listen to the History."

[Chat Block 3] "Treason is not always a man selling a key at the gate. Sometimes, Treason is a quiet thing. It lives in the heart before it ever touches the hand."

[Chat Block 4] "Law 1.6 defines Citizenship. It requires a formal pledge of allegiance. But Law 1.6.1.b says: 'Any Free Person who falsely claims allegiance to the Home Stone commits a crime.'"

[Chat Block 5] "What does it mean to 'falsely claim' allegiance? To answer that, I have invited our Storyteller to share the tale of 'The Man with Two Faces.' Listen well, for his fate could be yours if your heart is divided."

/me steps down and takes a seat near the fire, gesturing for the Storyteller to take the chair.

📖 PART 2: THE STORY (For the Guest Speaker)

(Give this text to your Storyteller. They should paste one block at a time, pacing themselves.)

[Block 1] /me sits in the storyteller's chair, leaning forward toward the fire. "Let me tell you of Horgus. Horgus was a merchant of red silk and fine spices. He came to Teletus from the great city of Ar. He was rich. He was loud. He bought rounds of Paga for the whole tavern."

[Block 2] "When it came time to stay, Horgus stood before the High Council. He raised his hand. He shouted the Pledge. 'I swear my life to Teletus!' he cried. And the people cheered. They liked his coin. They liked his smile."

[Block 3] "Horgus became a Citizen. He paid his taxes—mostly. He walked the streets with his head high. But Horgus had a secret."

[Block 4] /me lowers voice to a conspiratorial whisper. "In the bottom of his iron trunk, wrapped in three layers of wool, was a small box. And inside that box was the Seal of Ar. And a small bag of soil from his old city."

[Block 5] "You see, Horgus wanted the safety of Teletus, but his heart was still in Ar. When news came of conflicts, when the Ubar called for extra coin for the walls... Horgus hesitated. He wrote letters in secret to his cousins back home, telling them our defenses, telling them our prices."

[Block 6] "He told himself, 'I am not a spy. I am just... keeping my options open. If Teletus falls, I can go home to Ar.'"

[Block 7] /me shakes head slowly. "But the Home Stone is a jealous thing. One day, a Scribe came to audit Horgus's books. He found the letters. He found the Seal. He found the bag of soil."

[Block 8] "Horgus laughed nervously. 'It is just sentimental!' he said. 'I am a Citizen of Teletus!'"

[Block 9] "The Magistrate did not laugh. He cited Law 1.4 Subsection F: Falsely pledging allegiance to the Home Stone is Treason."

[Block 10] "Horgus was not exiled. You exile a stranger. You execute a Traitor. They took him to the walls he refused to pay for. And there, the Man with Two Faces lost his head."

[Block 11] /me leans back, the firelight casting shadows on their face. "You cannot serve two cities. You cannot have two hearts. Choose one, or the Law will stop them both."

(The Storyteller bows/nods.)

🎤 PART 3: THE ANALYSIS (Kati Returns)

(Walk back to the podium.)

[Chat Block 12] /me stands and nods to the Storyteller. "A grim tale. But a necessary one. Thank you."

[Chat Block 13] "Horgus's mistake was thinking that Citizenship is just a piece of paper. It is not. It is a marriage. You forsake all others."

[Chat Block 14] "Law 1.6.1 states that the High Council may revoke Citizenship for allegiance to another Home Stone. If you are a Resident, you may love another city. You are a guest. But if you are a Citizen, you belong to Teletus."

[Chat Block 15] "Check your trunks. Check your hearts. If you are still holding onto the soil of your old home, you are standing on dangerous ground."

🗣️ PART 4: DISCUSSION (Time Filler)

[Chat Block 16] /me looks out at the gathered citizens. "I want to discuss this. The line between 'Fond Memory' and 'Treason.' How many of you came here from another city? Raise your hands."

(WAIT. Let people raise hands.)

[Chat Block 17] "Many of you. I did as well. It is not a crime to remember where you were born. It is a crime to serve it while living here."

[Chat Block 18] "I will take questions now regarding Citizenship, Allegiance, and the process of changing your Home Stone."

(Signal PLANT A)

❓ Q&A SEGMENT

[PLANT A QUESTION] (Plant asks): "Mistress, surely Horgus was treated harshly? He didn't open the gates to the enemy. He just wrote letters."

[Chat Block 19 - Answer] /me raises an eyebrow. "Did he? He sent information on our prices and defenses. That is intelligence. But even if he wrote only about the weather... he held a Seal of another city."

[Chat Block 20] "In Gorean law, a Seal is authority. By keeping it, he was saying, 'I am still a man of Ar.' You cannot be a man of Ar and a man of Teletus. That is the lie. And the Lie is the Treason."

(Signal PLANT B)

[PLANT B QUESTION] (Plant asks): "Mistress, what if I want to change my Home Stone? What if I want to leave Teletus legally? Is that Treason?"

[Chat Block 21 - Answer] /me shakes her head. "No. We are not a prison. If you wish to leave, you go to the Scribes. You renounce your Citizenship formally. You surrender your rights. You leave through the gate as a free man."

[Chat Block 22] "The crime is not leaving. The crime is staying and pretending to be loyal when you are not. Horgus died because he wanted the safety of Teletus without paying the price of loyalty."

🏁 THE CLOSING

[Chat Block 23] /me smooths her robes. "Tomorrow is the final day of our first week. We have talked about the Pledge. Tomorrow... we will do it."

[Chat Block 24] "Day 5 will be an Open Forum. I will demonstrate the Ceremony of Allegiance. If you have been waiting to become a Citizen, tomorrow is the day to learn how."

[Chat Block 25] "Thank you to our Storyteller. The Circle is closed!"

(Signal Crier/Slave to end.)
