W12D1 - Lecture (Death Rules)

by Kati Evans

Here is the full production script for Week 12, Day 1.

To ensure this fills the 30–60 minute window, this script focuses on the Absolute Nature of Gorean Law regarding slaves. I have added a specific interactive segment called "The Death Line" where you present scenarios and ask the audience to judge if the slave survives or dies based on the strict letter of the law.

Crucial Note: Have a Dagger or Sword (prop) rezzed on the podium or held in your hand to serve as a visual aid.

📜 SECOND LIFE SCRIPT: WEEK 12, DAY 1

Event: The Lecture (The Three Death Rules) Host: Kati Evans Target Duration: 35–45 Minutes (plus gathering time)

🟢 PRE-EVENT CHECKLIST

  • [ ] Rez the Stage. (Props: A Sword/Dagger, a Whip).

  • [ ] Staff: Ensure Plant A and Plant B have their Question Notecards.

  • [ ] 1:00 PM: Announce 5-minute gathering period.

🎤 PART 1: THE WELCOME (The Cage of Knives)

(Walk to the podium. Pick up the Dagger. Handle it carefully.)

[Chat Block 1] /me steps up to the podium, the steel of a dagger gleaming in her hand. She looks down at the slaves in the front row. "Tal, Citizens. Welcome to Week 12 of The Circle."

[Chat Block 2] "Last week, we discussed Ownership. We talked about papers and brands. We established that a slave is a thing."

[Chat Block 3] "Today, we discuss Survival. To the Free, the Law is a shield that protects us. To the slave, the Law is a cage of knives. If you move wrong... you bleed."

[Chat Block 4] "There are many rules for slaves. Be pleasing. Be silent. Be obedient. But there are Three Rules that are different. These are the Death Rules."

[Chat Block 5] "If you break these three, you do not get a whipping. You do not get a scolding. You get a grave. Listen well, property. Your life depends on this lesson."

⚔️ PART 2: THE THREE RULES (Lecture)

[Chat Block 6] /me holds the dagger up high. "Rule One: The Steel (Law 6.3.3)." "'Female slaves may not touch weapons without explicit permission.'"

[Chat Block 7] "Do not move your Master's sword to clean the table. Do not pick up a dropped knife to be helpful. If your skin touches a weapon without a direct, immediate command... the penalty is Death."

[Chat Block 8] /me sets the dagger down with a clatter and raises a fist. "Rule Two: The Fist (Law 6.2.3)." "'A slave shall not strike a Free Person.'"

[Chat Block 9] "It does not matter if he is drunk. It does not matter if he hurts you. It does not matter if he is not your Master. If you raise your hand against the Free, the penalty is prolonged torture, followed by Death. You have no right of self-defense against the Free."

[Chat Block 10] /me points to her lips. "Rule Three: The Lie (Law 6.3.7)." "'Slaves may not lie.'"

[Chat Block 11] "A Free Person may use guile. A slave may not. Your tongue belongs to your Master. If you are caught in a falsehood—even a small one—the penalty is Death. A lying machine is a broken machine, and we discard broken things."

☠️ PART 3: THE DEATH LINE (Interactive Game)

[Chat Block 12] /me leans forward. "I want to test your understanding of these absolutes. I will give you a scenario. You tell me: LIVE (Whipping/Punishment) or DIE (Execution)?"

[Scenario 1] "Scenario 1: A Master is cleaning his sword. He drops it. He says, 'Girl, pick that up.' The slave picks it up by the hilt and hands it to him. Live or Die?" (WAIT for audience to answer. Correct answer: LIVE.)

[Chat Block 13 - The Verdict] "Verdict: LIVE. Why? Explicit Permission. He commanded her in the moment. She was an extension of his will. She obeyed."

[Scenario 2] "Scenario 2: A slave sees her Master's dagger left on a bench in the rain. She thinks, 'I should save it from rust.' She picks it up to bring it inside. Live or Die?" (WAIT. Answer: DIE.)

[Chat Block 14 - The Verdict] "Verdict: DIE. She had good intentions. But she did not have Permission. She touched steel on her own initiative. A slave with initiative is a dangerous thing. She dies."

[Scenario 3] "Scenario 3: A drunk Free Man (not her Master) corners a slave in an alley and starts beating her. She pushes him backward to escape. She does not punch, just pushes. Live or Die?" (WAIT. This is brutal. Answer: DIE.)

[Chat Block 15 - The Verdict] "Verdict: DIE. It is harsh. It is unfair. But it is the Law. She laid hands on a Free Person in anger/defense. Law 6.2.3 allows no exceptions for self-defense. Her only legal option was to run or curl up and scream for help."

❓ PART 4: Q&A SEGMENT (Extending Time)

[Chat Block 16] /me takes a sip of water. "I will take questions now regarding Conduct, Weapons, or the rights of the Master."

(Signal PLANT A)

[PLANT A QUESTION] (Plant asks): "Mistress! What if my Master orders me to lie? 'Tell them I am not home.' Do I obey him, or the Law?"

[Chat Block 17 - Answer] /me sighs deeply. "The Slave's Dilemma. If you disobey the Master, you are whipped. If you lie to the City, you are killed."

[Chat Block 18] "Technically, Law 4.3.6 punishes the Master for commanding the crime. But the slave still spoke the lie. Smart slaves find a way to evade. 'Master is... unavailable.' It is not a lie, but it is not the truth. Walk the line carefully."

(Signal PLANT B)

[PLANT B QUESTION] (Plant asks): "Mistress, can a slave use a kitchen knife? To cut meat?"

[Chat Block 19 - Answer] /me nods. "Yes. A kitchen knife is a tool. A sword is a weapon. Context matters."

[Chat Block 20] "However... if she takes that kitchen knife out of the kitchen? If she hides it under her bed? Then it becomes a weapon. And Law 6.3.3 applies. Death."

🏁 THE CLOSING

[Chat Block 21] /me smooths her robes. "The life of a slave is walking on the edge of a blade. One slip, and you fall."

[Chat Block 22] "Tomorrow, we move to the stage. Our players will perform a tragedy titled 'The Helpful Hand.'"

[Chat Block 23] "It is the story of a girl who tried to be helpful with a sword, just like in our scenario. Come and see why good intentions do not save property."

[Chat Block 24] "Dismissed!"

(Signal Crier/Slave to end.)
