W10D1 - Lecture (Warrants)

by Kati Evans

Here is the full production script for Week 10, Day 1.

To ensure this fills the 30–60 minute window, this script focuses on the Procedural Drama of roleplay. It teaches players exactly when they can (and cannot) be arrested. I have added an interactive segment called "The Warrant Game" to test the audience on specific arrest scenarios.

Crucial Note: Have a Scroll (prop) in your hand or rezzed on the podium to represent a Warrant.

📜 SECOND LIFE SCRIPT: WEEK 10, DAY 1

Event: The Lecture (The Warrant & The Arrest) Host: Kati Evans Target Duration: 35–45 Minutes (plus gathering time)

🟢 PRE-EVENT CHECKLIST

  • [ ] Rez the Stage. (Props: A set of Shackles/Cuffs placed on the podium for effect).

  • [ ] Staff: Ensure Plant A and Plant B have their Question Notecards.

  • [ ] 1:00 PM: Announce 5-minute gathering period.

🎤 PART 1: THE WELCOME (The Cage)

(Walk to the podium. Pick up the Shackles. Let them clink together.)

[Chat Block 1] /me steps up to the podium. She holds up a heavy set of iron shackles. The metal rings against the wood as she sets them down. "Tal, Citizens. Welcome to Week 10 of The Circle."

[Chat Block 2] "Last week, we talked about Crimes. We saw the blood of the thief and the brawler. We saw the end result."

[Chat Block 3] "Today, we talk about the Beginning. The moment the hand of the Law touches your shoulder. The moment your freedom stops and the Cage begins."

[Chat Block 4] "When a Warrior approaches you, do you panic? Do you run? Or do you know your rights? Law 4.5 governs Arrests. It is the shield that protects you from tyranny."

📜 PART 2: THE WARRANT (Law 4.5.1)

[Chat Block 5] /me picks up a rolled scroll from the podium. "Law 4.5.1 is the most important protection a Citizen has. Listen: 'No Free Person shall be arrested without a warrant issued by a lawful authority.'"

[Chat Block 6] "A Guard cannot just drag you away because he does not like your face. He cannot arrest you because you insulted his mother. He needs Paper. He needs a Seal from a Magistrate."

[Chat Block 7] "If a Guard tries to seize you for a crime committed yesterday, or last week, you have the right to ask: 'Where is your Warrant?'"

[Chat Block 8] "If he does not have one, he is acting outside the Law. You may demand to be released until the paper is signed. We are a City of Law, not a Bandit Camp."

⚔️ PART 3: THE EXCEPTION (Immediate Danger)

[Chat Block 9] /me drops the scroll and slams her hand on the podium. "BUT... do not be foolish. There is an exception. And it is a big one."

[Chat Block 10] "Law 4.5.2 gives Warriors the right to act without a warrant in cases of Immediate Danger."

[Chat Block 11] "If you are standing over a body with a bloody knife... the Guard does not need a scroll. If you are burning down a shop... he does not need a scroll. If you are actively beating a man... he does not need a scroll."

[Chat Block 12] "In the heat of the moment, the Sword is the Warrant. Do not argue 'Where is your paper?' while you are holding a weapon. You will lose that argument, and likely your teeth."

🛑 PART 4: THE WARRANT GAME (Interactive)

[Chat Block 13] /me leans forward. "I want to make sure you understand the difference. I will give you a scenario. You tell me: WARRANT NEEDED or IMMEDIATE ARREST?"

[Scenario 1] "Scenario 1: A Guard sees a man walking down the street. The Guard recognizes him as the man who stole a pie three days ago. He walks up to arrest him. Warrant or Immediate?" (WAIT for audience to answer. Correct answer: WARRANT.)

[Chat Block 14 - The Verdict] "Verdict: WARRANT NEEDED. The crime is in the past. The man is not dangerous right now. The Guard must go to the Magistrate, get the paper, and come back. He cannot just grab him on a hunch."

[Scenario 2] "Scenario 2: A woman is screaming insults at a Scribe in the market. She spits on him. The Guard is watching. Warrant or Immediate?" (WAIT. Answer: IMMEDIATE.)

[Chat Block 15 - The Verdict] "Verdict: IMMEDIATE ARREST. She is committing Assault (spitting) and Public Disorder right in front of the Guard. He can seize her to stop the crime."

[Scenario 3] "Scenario 3: A Merchant is suspected of tax evasion. The Guards come to his house at night to take him to the dungeon. Warrant or Immediate?" (WAIT. Answer: WARRANT.)

[Chat Block 16 - The Verdict] "Verdict: WARRANT NEEDED. Tax evasion is a paper crime. It is not 'Immediate Danger.' The Guards cannot kick down your door without the Magistrate's Seal. If they do, they are breaking the Law."

❓ PART 5: Q&A SEGMENT (Extending Time)

[Chat Block 17] /me takes a sip of water. "I will take questions now regarding Arrests, Warrants, or your Rights in Custody."

(Signal PLANT A)

[PLANT A QUESTION] (Plant asks): "Mistress! What if I refuse to go? If the Guard has a warrant, but I just say 'No' and sit down?"

[Chat Block 18 - Answer] /me looks stern. "Then you are adding a new crime to your list. Law 4.6.1: 'A Free Person... who refuses to appear may be seized and compelled.'"

[Chat Block 19] "If you refuse a lawful warrant, they will not ask nicely. They will club you. They will drag you. And you will look guilty to the Judge. If the Warrant is real, go quietly. Fight in the Courtroom, not in the Street."

(Signal PLANT B)

[PLANT B QUESTION] (Plant asks): "Mistress, once they arrest me, can they keep me in the dungeon forever?"

[Chat Block 20 - Answer] /me shakes her head. "No. We do not rot people without cause. Law 4.6.5."

[Chat Block 21] "Officials must provide a full account of your imprisonment within One Hand (Five Days). If you sit in a cell for six days without a hearing or a charge... the Magistrate is breaking the law. You can demand release."

🏁 THE CLOSING

[Chat Block 22] /me smooths her robes. "Knowing your rights is the difference between a Citizen and a Victim. Respect the Warrant, but demand it when the air is calm."

[Chat Block 23] "Tomorrow, we move to the Courtroom. Our players will perform a drama titled 'The Liar's Tongue.'"

[Chat Block 24] "We will see a man on trial. He tries to save himself by lying to the Magistrate. We will see why Perjury (False Testimony) is a capital crime."

[Chat Block 25] "Dismissed!"

(Signal Crier/Slave to end.)
